painting on black paper is an incredible experience. usually when I use goache, I use water with it but there's a rough vibrancy that dry brush brings across. you can't worry so much about mistakes and minute details, the strokes gain dimension.
(it also uses up far more paint which is why i don't usually do it)but for Perception Cacophony I needed something that accurately conveyed who this character was. not just the medium should match, but the style too. so dry brush it is. there's something freeing.
she speaks directly to the viewer, of course.
if you put page 1 (beating a dead horse) on top of page 2 (this is not my skull) you get a continuous picture. this happened of its own accord.
this conceit of Persephone and Hades speaking to each other in the dialogue/text boxes wouldn't let go of my mind. Hades' text boxes are drawn in silver, but it didn't transfer over well when photographed. in person it's easier to parse who's talking. (his text boxes & text are a heavier line weight/bold)
in the page (in the spring I think about roses), I keep looking at those green brush strokes. something about how Persephone is the goddess of growing things, cycles, sowing and harvest. it's not easily boxed up. there's too much to keep in lines. she is so very alive
